Installing Vinyl Siding On Concrete Blocks

Nail 1 1 2 inch thick wooden furring strips to the concrete wall at 4 foot intervals using concrete nails. Building an insulated concrete form icf building or house allows for the application of many types of exterior finishes. The mounting blocks are paintable and available in different sizes and profiles to fit most types of flat and lap vinyl siding styles. Cinder block walls are strong and inexpensive but they aren t always pleasant to look at.

Vinyl siding is a great material to dress up a concrete block structure. Using self tapping screws such as those by tapcon will fasten the strips to the concrete securely but concrete nails can be used as well. If you can install the finish on a traditional wood frame structure you can install it on an icf wall. Furring strips are basically 1x3 or 1x4 strip of wood that are vertically nailed every 16 inches on center using masonry or concrete nails.

Fortunately you have many options for improving a cinder block wall. Vinyl siding colors are not restricted to the limited five or ten pastel colors that were the choice for so many years. Installing 2 inch wide treated strips is necessary for a solid base for the house siding. You want to nails these in to the block joint not the block itself.

The strips can be ripped from 2 inch by 4 inch lumber or plywood but they should be at least 3 4 inch thick. A concrete block garage is just about as sturdy as any garage can be. Masonry veneers stucco panel siding vinyl or wood siding and fiber cement boards. The block we show here has a built in electrical box so you don t need the one in the wall.

The number of strips you need depends on the length of the wall. Add vinyl siding strips until you reach the end of the wall then measure and cut the last strip to leave 1 4 inch space at the end. Use the cut off piece to start the next row of siding. However light fixtures must be secured to an electrical box.

Concrete is an inexpensive way to create a strong cover. There are hundreds of colors to choose from when you decide on installing vinyl siding. Easiest and only way to install vinyl siding over the cinder block wall is to nail on something called furring strips. One choice might be vinyl siding.
